Teaching Philosophy

I absolutely love teaching.  I did not go into college thinking that I wanted to be a teacher, but I am very glad the profession somehow found me.  Even on rough days, and there are rough days, I come home proud of my job.  Teaching for me is a place to show learners the importance of community.  It is a place to show learners that it's okay to not know but it's not okay to not try.  I show them it is vital to create, to love reading and writing, and to always live the life of a learner.

I am a hands-on teacher with a relaxed teaching style.  I believe that students learn most from discussion and trying something themselves and less from lecture and drill work.  I believe practice is important but not the end-all.  I believe students have the ability to cure cancer, and thus treat them as such.  One day, they will.

In the past I have used the workshop model to teach all subjects.  This helps me make sure all learners show growth in my classroom.  I am constantly using data to drive my instruction and help me differentiate each lesson as needed.  I love to collaborate with other teachers to make sure that I am doing my best for all students.

I am a passionate teacher and am excited to find a new school community.  I promise to work hard and be a proud member of your teaching community, not just in the classroom but at school events and in staff meetings.  I believe in recognizing the achievements of past teachers and the hard work of parents.  Teaching takes a village and I look forward to finding my new teaching home.
